Skate Team Tryouts! This Sunday - 12/20/09

Requirements: Ages 14 to 18 are invited. Must live in NHSSA Region I (between Newberry Park and Bakersfield (Do not have to live in Ojai)

Ojai Seniors place 2nd in all of So Cal!
The Ojai Senior skated up a storm last Saturday at the Hurley Headquarters, 2009 NHSSA Finals.

JT Erickson, Zander Gabriel, Jacob Sessing and Shephard O'Brien earned high scores to beat 38 other teams from SD to Bakersfield.

JT Erickson place FIRST in the individuals for the day, with Zander placing 6th and Shephard in 18th out of 100 skaters.

The Ojai Sophmores Jamey Gabriel, Kevan Harris, Sam Gacad-Cowan, Marc Bruzuela and Dawson Campos also skated well for the day placing 12 out of the 40 teams in the league.

Ojai Dominates Central Coast Skateboarding

The Ojai Seniors did it again this past Saturday at the NHSSA Region 1 competition at SkateLab. The team of Zander Gabriel, JT Erickson, Jacob Sessing, Shephard O’Brien and Ryan Nance, all seniors in high school here in Ojai, had to dig deep to ward off the crew from Pacific High School of Ventura. Erickson, Gabriel, Sessing and O’Brien all skated in top form inching out the competition by two points and taking the Regional title for the year.

The Ojai Sophomores continue to hold their own among the southland’s best skaters. Kevin Harris, Sam Gacad-Cowan, Jamey Gabriel, Marc Bruzuela and Dawson Campos make up the sophomore team and placed 5th on Saturday. The 10th grade crew finished 4th overall in the north of LA region and qualified to go onto the NHSSA finals June 20th.

Out of 20 teams, LA north to Bakersfield, Ojai’s two teams placed 1st and 4th, have 6 individual skaters in the top 20 out of 100 skaters and are poised to make their mark on June 20th at the Hurley Headquarters in Costa Mesa. The first contest was April 25th at Skate Lab. The Ojai Seniors (Zander, JT, Jacob skated, Shepherd, Dylan and Ryan supported) placed 3rd in Region #1 on Saturday! They skated against 20 other teams in California! Our Junior Team (skating were Kevan Harris, Sam Cacad-Cowan and Marc Bruzuela, supporting were Jamey and Dawson) placed 8th! The Ojai Valley has 4 skaters in the top 20 individual point standings! All the kids on the skate team represent 4 Ojai area high schools - Nordhoff, Ojai Valley School, Chaparral and Happy Valley. 2008-2009 Ojai Skate Team Tryouts

We had the Ojai Skate Team tryouts at the Ojai Skate park. We had a great turn out of kids and observers cheering on the kids. Ojai's Mayor, Sue Horgan watched the entire tryouts with us. It was great to have her there to support the kids and our skate park efforts.

We would like to welcome 4 new Ojai skate team members. Ryan Nance, Sam Gacad-Cowan, Kevin Harris and Marc Brizuela.

Two Ojai SK8 Teams selected! Eleven Sk8ters from three Ojai Valley high schools, Nordhoff, Ojai Valley School, and Chaparral, were selected to represent Ojai for the 2008-9 National High School Skateboard Association season. Mayor Sue Horgan was there to watch the tryouts and congratulate the new team members. Their bios and the season schedule coming soon.
