Grand Opening: Ojai Day, October 16th, 2010

It’s going to be on the same day as Ojai Day this year so we expect a large crowd. The teen area will be located in the parking lot next to the skate park as one big Skate Lounge with tons of vendors, booths, music and activities for the kids all day long.
Write this date and time in your calendar.
October 16th.
10:00 am-8:30 pm.
A couple of reminders to be able to skate in the skate park this day and any day after.
- Everyone must have a helmet to skate (no exceptions). We are looking for donations of helmets so we can have a loaner box for those who forget. Let me know if you have any or bring them with you that day and add them to the box near the entry to the skate park.
- The official rules for our new skate park clearly don’t allow razor scooters & bmx bikes in the skate park, so please spread the word to all the kids. We will have a bike rack for them to park their bikes during the day.
- We used every inch of the skate park design for skateboarding so the skate park isn’t really for hanging out in. We will have bleachers right next to skate park fence with shade to watch everyone skating all day and in the evening. I just wanted to mention this since the kids will want and need room to skateboard without spectators in the way.
Mayor for the Day contest
One of the exciting things we are doing for the kids in Ojai previous to the Grand Opening is an essay contest. The winner of the essay contest will be the honorary Mayor of the Day and actually cut the ribbon during the grand opening at the skate park. They will also win a complete skate deck from SKATEONE.
Please encourage anyone who lives in the Ojai Valley, 18 and younger to participate. We are looking forward to hearing what all the kids would do to make Ojai a better place for our youth. Please send this email to your children’s teacher too, pass it on, spread the word. It has been approved by the Ojai Unified School District and it’s open to every child in the Ojai Valley, 18 and under.

• Night Skate from 5-8:30pm.
• Local teen musicians 10-5
• Skate Vendor Booths with tons of cool stuff to purchase and lots of giveaways 10-8:30
• School activity booths 10-5
• Texting, Air Guitar and Dance Contest 10-5
• Worlds Largest Skateboard 10-5
• Skate Movie & popcorn outside during skate night at 7-8:30
• Raffle booth with great prizes to raise money for permanet lights so we can night skate in the future.

We want this to be a day to remember, the kids in Ojai have waited so long. Over 10 years for some families. Let’s Celebrate!
I still need some volunteers for various tasks. Please email me or call me if you can spare even an hour that day in a booth or want to help with some of the tasks we need to do before the event.
